While I generally agree with that sentiment, it is only true as long
as everyone in the Ruby community has their rights respected. If
someone's rights of freedom of expression are violated, we put Ruby on
hold till we right the wrong. It is obvious Gerald Bauer's rights and
freedoms have been violated. Those who don't care or don't want to
talk about it are part of the problem, not the solution. You either
care about everyone in the community or you are not truly part of the
community, yet more of a parasite feeding off the violation of rights
of people in it to make an illegitimate place for yourself. Just
sharing my free expression as food for thought (aka my 2 cents).

I apologize Gerald, some previous messages made me think you were the
one who made the joke. I went back to the archives and it really
wasn't you. Since I made a mistake in public, I apologize in public.
I won't comment on this anymore and I humbly suggest everyone to do the same.

One way we can act to ensure everyone’s right to speech is to create an
environment that is welcome of diverse membership and ideas — if we’re
making fun of entire sections of society even before they’ve spoken, we
create a hostile environment, where not everyone is welcome to exercise
their rights, including expression.

No, social pressure does exist. People will not speak if repeatedly told or

I think some people don't understand that there is a difference between
having their rights respected, and turning a programming mailing list into
a political discussion forum.
Can you guys please take this somewhere else? Open a discord server or
something - and yes, please post a link in this mailing list and invite
people who want to take part in that discussion.
I, and I am sure many others, would really like this mailing list going
back on topic.
