Around WHICH country? This is the Internet, FFS. Also, if you genuinely had Ruby jobs you'd be a bit more explicit about the skills requirement.

Why not just say you're desperate for names of people looking for programming work, and have done with it? You'd gain points for honesty...

Just for laughs I went to the site.

1) There is just one Ruby job, in New York - bit of a commute from
London so I'll pass on that.
2) No search, not jobs by category
3) But thats ok, they only have 15 jobs

This is unprofessional even by recruiter standards - which is a low
bar as it is. My money is that it was someone who was sacked and
couldn't find a job and therefore decided to become a recruitment
consultant.

Unfortunately this sort of thing happens :frowning:

But on the plus side we can all cross Toby Gambill and API Recruitment
off our list of people to bother with when we are looking for a job,
natural selection at its best

All I do apologize for the quick knee jerk posting, I am looking for the passive job seeker for several great companies Im sure you all know how the recruiting world works I am only allowed to put out some of the information for these jobs because our clients don't want to be bombarded with a ton of resumes, I am the filter for these clients.
Sorry again I am only looking to help others advance their careers.

You must work with a better standard of recruiter than I do! I see this trick over the 'phone all the time...

Peter
I don't post my positions on our job board site, that job in New York is with another recruiter in our office, My job is hunt for the top of the list not to post on our site and hope that I get a resume, as far as a low bar for a recruiter not sure how you have been burned in the past but not all recruiters are shady.
The industry trend is to use recruiters to find top talent in the industry, one day you may need a recruiter to help you find a position even in London.

Yes, we know how the recruiting world works. We know it's only evens that you have any jobs to fill; you're just as likely to be looking for names for your books.

If you actually want someone to respond, and you really do have jobs, we'd need more details. You're talking to the whole world here: we'd need a rough idea of location. And Ruby is a big target to hit, too: we'd need a more focused idea of the skills you wanted.

Sorry if that seems rude -- but you know how the internet works...

I don't think it is rude at all, let me get some things together that won't give away my clients.

The industry trend is to use recruiters to find top talent in the industry,

If that were true, the things a recruiter would advertise *first* would
be the things that *never* get listed:

Exceptional pay rate (top talent expects top pay)
Unique job responsibilities (not just a list of technologies)
Industry or Company (who I work for matters)
Location (where I work matters)

Number of those you listed: 0
Number you can/will give: probably 1

People's opinions of recruiters would be a lot higher if they didn't act
like little more than a re-listing service. I can't count the number of
identical ads that all get put out by different recruiters! A cattle
call is not the way to attract top talent.

We have to be very careful when we put out information because job seekers can and do find out who our clients are and attempt to back door the recruiter which happens, we are doing a service to our contractors and clients.

The problem you are up against is that recruiters are seen as
dishonest scum and so you have to be upfront and clear as to what you
are offering. Saying that you have a job but are unable to say where
in the world this job is, what the salary is in the region of, what
the industry the job is in or what skills are needed seems like you
are basically on a fishing trip for CVs rather than having actual
vacancies to fill.

You talk of your clients but at the same time talk about potential
applicants going directly to the client. If you were working with the
client they wouldn't accept applicants who came to them directly, that
is what they use a recruiter for, if they do then they are not
actually your clients.

Remember the responses you are getting here is because your post
sucked and by implication you and the company you represent. A little
more professionalism would not go amiss, first impressions and all
that.

In article
<97F6FA471BF3C14E9A14EC45D05D99CD21F72E8218@STRATUSMBX01.Terenine.com>,

We have to be very careful when we put out information because job seekers
can and do find out who our clients are and attempt to back door the
recruiter which happens, we are doing a service to our contractors and
clients.

There is no logic in that. If anyone can go behind your back, you're
not a job recruiter for that company. You're just some kind of middle
man, like I said, who is re-listing public ads. A company that is
enlisting a proper search firm would simply forward any unwanted resumes
they received to you, and you would promptly remove the candidate from
consideration for behaving so unprofessionally. Reality trumps the FUD.

Exceptional pay rate (top talent expects top pay) and I agree with you on
this and I get the top for my candidates that is how I get paid too,
Corporate recruiters are commission based.

Please. Many of us have had tons of experience with recruiters, good
and bad, and we know the various ways the game is played. When you
don't list *any* financial details, it is a red flag. Simple as that.

Unique job responsibilities (not just a list of technologies) this
information is given to you when you decide to submit your resume to my
clients

Again, there is a failure in logic. Why would any "top talent" submit
their resume for a generic Ruby job *without* getting that information
first? With so many shady recruiters, there isn't even reason to
believe that *any* such Ruby job even exists.

Industry or Company (who I work for matters) The industry is Media

Oh, yeah, great! Media. Very informative. Let us all rush right out
to be part of the Media industry . . .

Location (where I work matters) 2 positions in Tennessee- 1 is for a junior
developer and 1 senior developer, 10 positions in NY for senior developers is
all my client will allow me to say at this time

So you have work in a low cost of living area and a high cost of living
area, but refuse to say what the pay is. You won't say what is
interesting about the work, and don't distinguish even the *type* of
work (could be a news network "media", or it could be a porn site
"media", or anything else under the sun).

Your client will not be getting top talent. Given the way recruiters
work now, they're usually lucky to get competent talent. It used to be
that recruiters on Usenet were *great*, even welcome, because they went
the extra mile to give you what couldn't be found on job search sites.
If you're not going to do that, there is little point in your being here.

I really appreciate the honest response from all of you on this matter, let me say this I am not fishing for resumes because that takes up a lot of wasted time on both parties,
I did say in an earlier response the following
2 positions in Tennessee 1) junior developer (1) Senior Developer
(10) positions in NYC for both Junior and Senior Developers
Pay will be based on Experience
Social Media development company
