I like nedit. I’ve slowly built up a small but comfortable set of macros
and syntax highlighters for it. I just wish the macro language was ruby…
I’m using nvi, for vim is to vi what emacs is to … uhm … cat ?
Is there a real difference in emacs and vim ? (I mean size wise)
If yes then I suppose it’s that emacs is an OS and vim isn’t - they’re
gobbling CPU cycles and RAM alike though ![]()
(and no, no flame-bait or editor battle intended - but those editors
who eat ram & cycles for breakfast must be able to shield 'em against
some taunt ![]()
(…and who needs syntax high-lighting ?)

I"m using ActiveState Komodo. It’s $29 but pretty nice. It is really
targetted at Perl/Python (you can run their debuggers inside Komodo), but
is language support for Ruby, Lisp and about 20 other languages. There was
some talk by ActiveState a year or so ago about adding more Ruby support,
but I don’t know where that went. One license will let you use Komodo on
both Windows and Linux, so it’s not a bad deal. Oh, it also has code
folding, which is pretty nice.

nedit eh? well, i like vim, but can’t stand it. know what i mean? emacs? no
thanks. so i’ve been using scite for good highlights, and (ugh) kate b/c it
can have many files open at once (but syntax highlighting dosen’t work
right). so i can’t say i’m all too happy with either.
maybe i’ll give nedit a whirl. looking foward to FreeRide though…

Hi Joel,
Could you send them to me (or are they available somewhere). On the
Nedit site I have only seen the highlighters.
Thanks Bill

They’re on the RAA at:

I’m updating it now with some recent changes.
This is just a dump of my .nedit file. I should really export the
ruby-related stuff and send it to nedit.org, but…
