Clarifiction needed about versions

Hi!
Could any kind soul please tell me the connections between
different ruby-versions, please?

ruby 1.6.8 is the stable release, not much development, there,
but how are 1.7., 1.8-preview and the daily snapshot related?

Thanks in advance,
Martin.

1.6.8 - stable release
1.7.* - previous development release (forget it)
1.8.0 - next stable release (but currently in preview)

There are two daily snapshots,
1.6.8 - stable
1.8.0 (preview) - development (until final)

When 1.8.0 is final, (I think) you’ll see:

1.8.* - stable
1.9.* - development

You probably know this, but generally, open source software uses
an odd second digit to indicate an unstable, or development version.
Even second digits are usually safe

Finally using a Mac!

Except, never run any software whose version ends in .0

Brian.

Hi daz,

That was exactly what i wanted to know.
Thanks a lot,

used for Ruby; however, Matz decided to change this for Ruby
sometime last year (I think). There’s a message on -talk or -core
somewhere about this. I think that it was said that 1.8.0 is the
development line, 1.8.1 is the release line. There will be a 1.9 as
a released (stable) version, IIRC.

Just when you think you have it all figured out…

Thanks for the update.
