I was wondering if anyone of you have ever thought about going to Berlin
to start some new challenges or maybe someone has already gone through
that step...
What you guys think about the so called "European Silicon Valley"?
Is Berlin really _the_ "European Silicon Valley"? In my perception
Berlin has a strong community of people in content production and web.
But, for example, Frankfurt/Main area has quite of lot of people
writing banking software and SAP isn't far also. And then there's
Dresden with AMD and I believe in Jena there's also quite a bit of
industry with IT activities.
Having said that, I am sure Berlin is a great place to live and work.
Have been there just a few weeks ago. You could spend years
discovering this city. If you get the chance, then go.
Kind regards
robert

That's what they say...I think (my internal point of view) that so many
startups in need of programmers and Ruby developers are (at the moment)
just located in Berlin.
It's not a reason to say that it's the only technological city but due
to the huge quantity of startups, I would think about it if looking for
new challenges.

Marco

When it comes to startups, Berlin is definitely one of the places to be,
but its not "the single best location", especially not in Europe. Even in Germany,
you also have Cologne, Leipzig, Frankfurt and others that have thriving scenes of
software developers. I think the Berlin Ruby and startup community is the strongest[1],
but I am not sure.
Having that said, I founded my company in Berlin and love the town. Its a bit rough
from time to time and certainly a town that you have to learn to like, but it
has a very special flavor.
Best regards,
Florian
[1] Which is easy, considering the size of the town.
