Under Solaris I like Emacs.
Under Linux I like Anjuta (http://anjuta.sourceforge.net/) and some times
Emacs.
Under Windows… why would I use Windows? ![]()
Cheers.

I am interested in this, too. And I really need something with more
browsing features than Emacs. (I’ve used it for C++ with etags and ECB
but I am a little bit fastidious from Smalltalk ![]()
Has anyone tried Eclipse or Sniff++ with Ruby? What about Practical
Ruby (that’s a Scintilla based IDE)?

Anjuta looks interesting. Does it know how to do Ruby syntax
highlighting (I couldn’t tell from the information on their home page)?

does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to configure vim for use
with ruby? i see in the vim documentation that it can be set up to
automatically ‘make’ c programs; obviously ruby isn’t compiled, but i’m
interested to know if there are features of this kind that i’m missing.
also, a while ago i saw something which would evaluate your ruby
statements as you wrote in vim, in the standard ‘# ->’ kind of way…
does anyone know what i’m talking about, and is it useful? i got the
impression it was like having irb embedded into vim, which sounds pretty
cool to me.
as always any pointers, tips or clues would be greatfully received.
nice one,
ian

I’ve installed the eclipse plugin some days ago. But it seemed still a bit
raw, so I dropped it.

I just downloaded it and it’s pretty impressive!
Yes, it seems to understand Ruby, because it does syntax hilighting,
block/method folding and even has a drop-down list of method names, to allow
you to jump to them quickly.
Very, very nice. If they can hook vim in there, I’ll be hooked :-). GUI
access to the Ruby debugger would be nice, too.

There are several vim-related pages at the RubyGarden Wiki.

http://www.rubygarden.org/ruby?VimRubyInterface

Hope this helps,

Thanks for that information, I’ve been thinking about installing Anjuta
several times, but as I don’t do any C/C++ development ATM I never did
give it a try. But now I will test it.
If it’s not what I’m looking for I’ll stick with (G)Vim, and if it’s
just for the reason I really love my .vimrc ![]()
