Vim syntax file maintenance

Hello all,

I’ve just taken over maintenance of the ruby syntax file for vim.

Many thanks to Mirko Nasato for authoring the the original.

If anyone has any patches they’d like included, or any problems they’d
like to have fixed, please let me know.

Regards,
Doug

The last “end” in this block doesn’t highlight correctly:

  if line !~ / \Z/ || eof?
    partial += line.chomp + " "
    while matched = sentenceRE.match(partial)
      thisSentence = partial[ 0 .. matched.end(0) - 1 ]
      partial = matched.post_match
      yield thisSentence
    end
  else
    partial += line.chomp
  end

I just had to fix this (for matchit) in my ruby ftplugin file.

The latest is still the distributed version :-). I’ll start on it in the
next couple of days and post the URL here then.

Hmm, well, I downloaded a gvim that seems to act
differently from what some people report.

I’m ignorant of vim syntax files in general.

Is there a way I can check my version or something?

Thanks,

Look at the top of the syntax/ruby.vim file (probably in a shared
directory, perhaps /usr/local/share/vim/vim61/ or somewhere similar).
I notice I have one in my (personal) ~/.vim/syntax directory that
says:

" Vim syntax file
" Language: Ruby
" Maintainer: Mirko Nasato
" Last Change: 2001 May 10
" Location: http://altern.org/mn/ruby/ruby.vim
" Subsequently modified by: Hugh Sasse hgs@dmu.ac.uk
" Purpose of mod: To provide folding
" Date of mod: 12-APR-2002

while the one that came with the 6.1 distribution says:

" Vim syntax file
" Language: Ruby
" Maintainer: Mirko Nasato
" Last Change: 2001 May 10
" Location: http://altern.org/mn/ruby/ruby.vim

There’s quite a bit of difference. The folding is nice, though.
