The Ruby Way

After all excited opinions regarding this book, that I agree with, I’d
notify that this book is available on saffari also.

What do people think of “The Ruby Way”?
Would that be a good book to buy?

Is there a book homepage? I can’t find it in Google.

??? I don’t get it. Why is it on an O’Reilly page?

I hadn’t known about this before, but apparently O’Reilly licensed the
book and, if you subscribe to Saffari, you can read the whole book on
line.

Now that is interesting. I certainly didn’t
know about that. Hopefully that will have a
positive effect on royalties – Guy H, are you
reading this?

FWIW, it’s now in Japanese also – I just got my
copy today.

But I’ll tell you about that tomorrow.

Just to add a little more to that.

Safari is used by a number of publishers and sites. You can also access
safari via informit (safari.informit.com) and it has excactly the same
content.

Essentially its a bunch of publishers and someone else that decided that
it was a good idea to “rent” books on a monthly basis. I’ve used it a
little and its quite good, quite useful if you are trying to find
something quickly.

I will admit now, that I created a copy of the ruby way as a word doc
(copy and pasted the pages from the website) last week. Don’t worry Hal
you haven’t lost out on a sale, I will be buying the book in the new
year once my finances have recovered from Xmas.

You won’t, anyway; Safari subscriptions are treated as sales for royalties
purposes.

Really? Cool, do you know if its one of a month by month basis i.e. the
longer I keep it on my “bookshelf” the longer he gets a royalty fee or
is it only when I first put the book on?

In any event, if I wanted to get annoyed with
somebody, it would not be those who copied it,
but those who made it possible.

On the other hand, no extrapolation should
necessarily be made to the recording
industry… A different beast there.
