Talking about Seattle: anyone fancy getting together this coming
Saturday evening in Bellvue? I’m talking at the Pacific Northwest Software
Symposium (including a talk on Ruby for Java programmers).

I’m not up for a late night (I’ve got to get to SeaTac for a 6am flight
Sunday morning) but it would be nice to meet up for dinner somewhere. I
think I’m at the Hilton Bellvue.

Cheers

Dave

Out of curiousity, what’s up with all the Ruby activity in the northwest
all the sudden?

I’m asking because I just moved to the east coast from Oregon, and I’m
wondering what I’m missing.

I’m certainly interested (the big question is can I convince my wife to be
interested.) We’ll talk it up at the Seattle.rb meeting too.

Do you have an approximate time frame between the end of your presentation
and the clock striking (when you turn into a pumpkin)?

thanks,

Wish I could be there for that.

Are you publishing the notes/slides/whatever?

Heh. Seattle area is full of computer “activities.” Seat of
Intel/MS, and as a result, a lot of other technological companies.
University of Washington is also a huge computer school, definitely one
of the best (no MIT, but still ~,^).

That’s actually why I’m planning on moving out there from Michigan (ya,
I’m right next to UofM, but Ann Arbor has a shortage of decent jobs
available to a Linux-specialist).

You left just as the PDX.rb is getting going - if you had only been
patient for another month or two you could have joined us…

…but (semi) seriously, I don’t know what’s going on over here, maybe the
fact that they’re using Ruby out at Intel has something to do with it (at
least here in Portland).
The interesting thing is that of the five or six folks I’ve run into
recently who have been using Ruby, I don’t think any of then knew about
(or at least if they did they didn’t participate in or read) this mailing
list/ng which I find kind of odd.

The slides on their own don’t realy get the message across. Perhaps an
article if I get the time.

Dave

Well, just do an audio recording of it…
and then sneeze every time you change slides.
