Does anybody attending Ruby Conference 2002 (or anybody lives around
Seattle) want to meet an Microsoft engineer? He’s offering us help to
enhance Ruby’s Windows support, especially Ruby for .NET.
I will meet him on November 5th. Does anybody want to be with me?

By any chance is arton going to RubyConf? He has a Ruby.NET
in progress, I think.
What about Masaki Suketa or other such experts?

Is that Brad Merril ? I know he was in charge of the project for porting
other languages to .Net. We dealt with him as part of our PerlNet
development.

It’s Lee Fisher, who is colleague of Brad. I think Brad too is around
OOPSLA place.
I wouldn’t mind sitting in if its still possible. My .Net knowledge is
pretty good and I have a good idea of what the issues were with getting
perl to talk to .Net.

Good idea, since the other way round compromise would be in Europe, and we
can’t have that, now can we… Nasty people, those Europeans.
If we continue the pattern of meeting in the same city as OOPSLA, I
believe we’ll be in Anaheim, California. This is, in my view, a very
good reason not to continue that pattern
I think Seattle to Japan is less than half
the Earth’s circumference… so there is no
contest.
If we’re talking east coast of the USA, that
is different.
I have nothing against Europeans. Even the French
I have found to be friendly as long as you make
the effort to speak their language rather than
just assuming they know English, which they do
but won’t always admit to. I met a few crusty,
hostile people over there, but once I spoke a
few words of French, from my limited vocabulary,
the most hard-bitten individual immediately
loosened up and answered politely in English.
But as for Hawaii: There is a certain appeal to
sun and sand and temperate weather. And I harbor
a prejudice that grass skirts look better on
young Polynesian women than, say, Maggie Thatcher.
How are the Finnish beaches? In November?
Cheers,
Hal

Well… in all seriousness, who decides?
As far as Japan is concerned, is it cheaper to
fly to California than Florida? I’d assume so,
but what do I know?

Beaches? Bah, we don’t need no soddin’ beaches like some pampered
californians: sheer cliffs is more like it! Perfect for a refreshing
morning dip before a day of coding, provided you avoid the ice-bear of
course.
My air fair to Tampa last year was $80 round-trip.
It’s hard to beat that, but I suspect that you can
fly cheapest to Las Vegas from anywhere (not that
I’m suuggesting that is where we have the conf).

The trouble with being punctual is that people think you have nothing
more important to do.
