Ruby Hosting - 3 Questions

[1] Is there an inexpensive place to host my Ruby backed website?
[2] Or, do I need a dedicated server for this?
[3] If there is sufficient interest, I will consider buying a couple
of Linux machines and providing at hosting portal for Ruby.

Please advise if there is a more appropriate place to post this.

Thankyou,

Jeff

[1] Is there an inexpensive place to host my Ruby backed website?

You may want to try aismedia.com. They support the following languages:

PHP 4.2.2 *
C/C++ (gcc 2.95.4)
Perl (5.6.1) *
Ruby (1.6.7)
Python (2.2.1)
TCL (8.3.4)
OCAML (3.04)
Scheme 48 (0.57)
scsh (0.6.2)

They may be offering a special offer for this group.
I’ll post any info when I find out.

[2] Or, do I need a dedicated server for this?

Only if you have a very busy site.

[3] If there is sufficient interest, I will consider buying a couple
of Linux machines and providing at hosting portal for Ruby.

We always need more ISP’s that support Ruby, but beware of the costs.

Define inexpensive.

You might take a look at www.rootr.net. They support Ruby… they have
1.6.7 running on OpenBSD (with MySQL server available, if you’re into
that).

I just signed up with them, but my first impressions are positive. They
seem very aware of general CGI security issues, have well-configured
servers and accounts, useful web-based tools, and (so far) very responsive
support staff.

Did a quick search on Google and came up with this:

Free hosting for Ruby. It requires a banner on every page, but it would be
worth it for practicing making web pages with Ruby IMO.

I haven’t tried it. So if someone tries it could they report back how well
it works?

John.

I’m not familiar with how to do this (but would be willing to learn),
but does this warrant a wiki entry? I suspect this will become an
oft repeated question before long.
