Hi Cliff, maybe you should do yourself and others a favor and download
and install it locally from http://www.ruby-doc.org/downloads 
After installation browsing the docs is lightning fast!

If I recall correctly they are quite short on HW and without a
donation that will not really change

That's wrong.
The hardware should be fine for the current typical load.
For reasons still unclear to me, ruby-doc is getting bogged down, even the static pages. Other sites on the same box seem fine.
