You asked for it, you got it! O'Reilly is now selling the Ruby Cookbook
as a downloadable PDF for 50% off the cover price. AFAIK this is the
first full-length O'Reilly book to be sold as PDF, and if it goes well,
other O'Reilly books should follow. PDF copies of the Cookbook will be
watermarked but not encumbered by DRM.
Figures, I order my first print book in ages and a few hours later it's pdf'ed.
Whatever

I've already bought it. O'Reilly might check out their
download page, though - it comes through nice and automatically -
downloaded as a file named 'Ruby' - no extension - and without
any means for the browser to set the file type (on a mac where
the file type may be determined other than through the extension).
At a minimum, they need to change the filename.
The file itself is perfectly fine. I added the .pdf extension
and it opens right up in Preview.
Thanks for getting them to do this. The PDF format will make
my life much easier. It's a hell of a lot lighter to carry
around than the dead tree version, even if it's harder to
read on the subway.

Brilliant! Within 5 minutes of reading the above, I had it on my laptop. Now I can lend my paper copy to colleagues to tease them over to the side of goodness and light.... :o)
Thanks very much.

Just to mention little fact. I downloaded the source code and all
the files are extensionless.
Meaning no .rb

Thanks for the pointer. I had already ordered it from Amazon, but the
free shipping option means it won't arrive for another couple of
weeks. I'll be happy with my PDF version until then.
