RedLetter Ruby Journal

Has anyone who subscribed to the RedLetter gotten their
money back? Has anyone tried to? It looks like the website
http://redletter.rubyjournal.com is gone, http://rubyjournal.com
redirects to a domain rexseller, and I just saw an
announcement that "Sam Flywheel" is now trying to create
"Tabula: The Journal of MySQL Development" which looks
strikingly similar to the RedLetter announcements.

On June 14th, Sam Flywheel sent an email to me an 12 others saying we had
the option of getting our money back or getting a subscription to the more
expensive upcoming MySQL Journal. I emailed him back promptly asking for my
money back and have not heard anything for 2 weeks.

Has anyone successfully gotten their money back from him? I'm evaluating
whether I should report him to paypal.

hmm, http://redletter.therubyjournal.com/ still exists, I'm not
sure how I muffed that URL. It still promises an April publication
date though, so I'm still awfully leery of the whole thing.

And this really makes me wonder what the status is.

It took a while but I did get my money back.

Sam told me that there were not enough writers for the Ruby journal but
I could subscribe to a MySQL one for more money. I told him I was not
interested, but he has not reimbursed my cash. I e-mailed him again
today.

Did you do anything special? I've still got jack.

I emailed directly a couple times. I registered a problem with PayPal. I
posted on ruby-talk.

There was no communication associated with my repayment so I don't know if
any of it helped or if it just took a long time.

It must have helped because I've seen nothing of my money. And, I noticed he's still accepting payments on therubyjournal.com. I think that Sam Flywheel is a crook who's taken^H^Hing advantage of an otherwise friendly and trusting community.

Complaint to PayPal is next on my checklist.

Apologies to whoever Sam Flywheel is.. the PayPal payments for the vapor journal were to a "Martin Streicher". Maybe it's the same guy? Maybe not, I don't care.. I want my money back.
