it seem that is only a writer - at least i can seem to see
any reader functionality... am i mistaken?

ok. seems wrapping catdoc and xls2csv may be the best approach - this code
seem maintained and portable... perhaps i'll do that and put it up on the raa
unless anyone else pipes up with an xls reader :wink:
