I'm to give short talk on ruby at work, anybody have material/outlines they can donate/

material/outlines they can donate/

I’m not expected to be a ruby expert, its just part of a series of
“here’s a cool thing, this is what I know so far” talks. I’m planning on
talking about

  • why I started to be interested in ruby
  • quick overview of the lang, some comparisons to perl and lisp
  • what kind of things I’m doing

Just 30 min and some questions.

Anybody done something like this before and has some suggestions? A 10
minute syntax review outline?

You might take a look at my talk “Ruby for Perl
Programmers” at http://rubyhacker.com – maybe
you can get some ideas from it.

Cheers,
Hal

these slides are a bit dated … but maybe useful inspiration
for a short presentation.

There are some slides by Dave Thomas & Andy Hunt, which
compare the Ruby Syntax with Smalltalk, Perl, etc.

The slides by matz are also normally quite funny.
Start your journey here:

and

scroll to the bottom … “Other Articles”

Please also put your finished slides online … :-).

Good luck,
-A.

Wow Hal! 71 slides! How long does it take to give this presentation?
My slides/hour talk rate is well under thirty, so 71 slides would nearly
be 2 1/2 hours. I liked some of your examples, BTW.

Sam, I’ve done a presentation that concentrated more on advocacy than
technical depth. You can find my slides at …
