Welcome !
Ruby continues to illuminate a lot of my thinking with regards to other
languages ... elegant, simple, extremely fast to develop with. Also you
might look into Crystal, which is inspired by Ruby and adds a type system,
compiler, and a whole lot of runtime speed.
Good luck !!

is to be ultimately at peace with himself.

Welcome!
May I suggest checking out the free and open-source [Glimmer DSL for
SWT](GitHub - AndyObtiva/glimmer-dsl-swt: Glimmer DSL for SWT (JRuby Desktop Development Cross-Platform Native GUI Framework) - The Quickest Way From Zero To GUI - If You Liked Shoes, You'll Love Glimmer!) to complement the
fun of learning Ruby by building GUI (Graphical User Interfaces)?!
The [Well-Grounded Rubyist by David A

is by the way one of my favorite books for learning Ruby.

Joseph, welcome!
You will love Ruby. Also you might look into Raku. It is a new Perl. Ruby
takes a lot of things from Perl.
Regards.

Thanks. I looked at raku but doesn't look like its for beginners. I picked
ruby because I'm a new programmer and need to follow a book that teaches
programming and the language.
