Wiki FAQ

I wonder what people think to having the Ruby FAQ be in wiki form?

I ask this as it seems that a number of FAQ-like things are being added to
the wiki.

I realize that Dave and Andy do not appear to have a wiki on their site
(shame on them!!!), and that RubyGarden does not host the FAQ. I don’t
think it would be difficult to add a wiki to rubycentral.com?

I also realize that a wiki is not a good form for downloading locally, like
the PS, PDF, etc.

I did notice that there are a number of things that are in the FAQ
suggestions page on RubyGarden. By having the FAQ as a wiki, people could
add their own FAQ entries as well as edit those that are out of date. This
could relieve Dave and Andy from having to update the FAQ.

Anyway, just an idea to see what people thought.

I would be willing to convert the existing FAQ to a given wiki if we decided
to do this.

I believe this was discussed a while back (although it might have been
an off-list discussion). If I remember correctly one of the problems
with using the Wiki as a FAQ is that it would be hard to keep it
definitive.

There other options (such as faq-o-matic) but I personally find that
ugly.

If someone wanted to write the definite FAQ tool (in Ruby, or course
:), I’d be happy to host it on RubyGarden.

Well, RubyCentral isn’t really our site, so we’re limited to what we
can run there. However, it’d be trivial to move the FAQ to RubyGarden.

Cheers

Fair enough. Didn’t realize it had been discussed - probably missed it.

I am happy how things are, and given the number of other replies I am
assuming that everyone else is too.
