Can version 1,53 be used instead of the 1.41 that comes with the Windows
installer? I changed some properties, but the tools->build and
tools->compile options never show up.
Are these commands kind of hard-coded?

Each installation of SciTE will have its own “ruby.properties” file.
Therefore, if you modify one and install another, you will not get the same
modifications.
But you can just copy the “ruby.properties” file to the other installed
installation and you will have the same mods. : )
I tried that, it gives Help & Go, but no Compile or Build.
Which of course is not very strange for an interpreted language…

Right. For Ruby there would be no compile and build. SciTE will always show
those even though they are not really options. If you load a Java or C++
file it will get the options.
