Your answer 4513 seems not to be accessible at the archive.
I remember you preferred the Ruby solution rather than the C issue.

It appears that it's actually 4515. Not sure what happened to 4513 and 4514. Weird.

I still hope this feature once will be applied.

Were you going to create a rubyforge project? Or were you hoping for a core modification?
