Also, get yourself a copy of "Programming Ruby" book, a.k.a. Pickaxe. It has very good examples with detailed run through all of them.

The rollercoaster ride that is the man known as "Why the lucky stiff" has a great ruby tutorial you can play with - written from within a web version of the interactive ruby interpreter itself!
Yes, even the name of the man strikes fear into the hearts of those who would yearn for a lovely, simple life, where nothing is ever difficult.
You should definitely check that out first if you haven't already.
