Ruby MUD: Requesting help

So, after creating a rather rudimentary MUD client in Ruby as part of my
home-schooling curriculum, I have become interested in working on an
actual MUD.
   I have made many simple works of interactive fiction, but thats just
about it. I was wondering if anyone would like to give some input as to
how to handle 'ticks', command queuing, and some bits of game logic
(combat, movement, etc.). Basically, it would be nice to have a partner
in this endeavor.
