RoR host

Hello,

What rails host would advice a starting RoR developr to use for small businesses websites? Something that gives a complete deploy once service like heroku.

Best regards
Hassan Salami

Hey Hassan,

My suggestion is to just use something like Heroku, if you can afford it.
Otherwise, the cheaper route would be to get a Virtual Private Server (VPS)
and install your Rails applications there.

Cheers,

Hey!

VPS is good provided you'll maintain it -- configuration, updates, patches,
etc. Personally, I'd go with Heroku. It seems to be expensive but it's not
when you compare it with the opportunity cost.

Best regards

PS A static site generator and S3 could also make sense in some cases.

Hey Hector, Hassan, Greg,

VPS is most manageable solution, spend 2-4 hours of your time to prepare
and have knowledge about:
- RoR configuration ( I use Apache and mod_passenger on Debian OS );
- Apache configuration for security ( SSL, browsing and so on )
- Zabbix installation and configuration
- Firewall configuration using iptables

I confiugre every 6 hours an notification email about status of machine,
services, space, CPU, memory and so on.

I hope that my information can be helpful for you.

Thanks

For litle rails web sites i use *Gwebs* <http://guebs.com/a/9ee8ea2f> shared
hosting. *Ruby, Rails, Git, SSH, Email ...*
It´s very nice hosting solution for new websites.

For what it's worth, I've been using Jekyll with a few plugins (it's
written in Ruby) all hosted on S3 and am very happy with it. I've also
hosted on Heroku and have found it simple and reliable.
