Q: RAA source archives? (404s)

Hi,
how people tend to solve “404 problem” with RAA entries?

Particularly fastcgi.rb is no googler now
(http://www.ruby-lang.org/raa/list.rhtml?name=FastCGI)
– the system seems to be fresh Debian install now?

…and it’s disappointing not to find it archived somewhere.

So: “how people tend…”?

Have you tried sending e-mail directly to the author (Eli Green)?

Well, thanks to Marek Janukowicz, one of mine was solved.

2 RAA people: is it possible to mention “alternative link” on
RAA? It will get googled, but…

2 Eli: would your egomaniacy  survive checking
http://osdn.org.ua/~mike/fastcgi.rb against your copy (and
sending me PGP signature for it so people can count on
integrity)?

PS: http://fenris.codedogs.ca/~eli/fastcgi.html (google-cached)
is archived at http://osdn.org.ua/~mike/fastcgi.html (+URI fix).

PPS: hope it will turn out worth trouble at all

Hmm… no. But it’s not the first time I get 404, and inspecting
download-check results gave me the reason for the question.

I’m not asking about particular case, but about the whole situation.

Sorry for not responding long time.
A person kindly told me that the author Eli seems to not have
a plan to continue maintaining the project. So we shold
remove the entry from RAA or add a comment.

By the way, why don’t you search RAA with ‘fastcgi’?
You will find
fcgi: http://www.ruby-lang.org/raa/list.rhtml?name=fcgi
there. The author MoonWolf is still active in Japanese community.
Though he said that the fcgi API is not compatible with that of
fastcgi…

Thanks for responding at all

Hmm… my point was that “if it was written and working, why
shouldn’t it be archived with appropriate notice?”.

By the way, why don’t you search RAA with ‘fastcgi’?

I’ve read that but for some reason (don’t remember exactly now)
wanted to look at both implementations.

fcgi: http://www.ruby-lang.org/raa/list.rhtml?name=fcgi

Well, one of the reasons I’ve decided to bother ruby-talk had to
do with “archiving” question floating around a while ago.

But thanks anyway. For now, I’m stuck with mod_ruby + ruby-dbi
blowing up on 1.7.3 though… several mild attempts at hacking
around it didn’t succeed, and I didn’t want to break things down
further.

Sure. I misunderstood the topic. Regards to archiving downloadable
RAA items, you will see a independent project help us.
I’m not a responsible person, but stay tuned.
