FreePAN will not be officially open for business until late February.
We don’t exactly have the bandwidth at the moment to open the floodgates.
So we’re working on securing a few more HTTP/FTP mirrors and finishing some
documentation.
And if we don’t have them by February, we’ll likely open anyway. I’m
anxious to get things started.
Did I make someone mad? I don’t see my name or any of my modules there.
It’s a personal vendetta, Daniel Berger, that one day will end with
the detonation of an onion factory!
Yeah, so… When FreePAN opens, I’ll be posting a comprehensive list of
why modules aren’t checking into the repository and how to make it all work
right. Be briefly patient, as you might just see the modules appear
suddenly as we’re pounding away.

Thank you all for your effort. At last I can write FreePAN here.

May I ask why the name? The P in CPAN means Perl…
what is FreePAN all about?

I believe the ‘P’ in FreePAN stands for ‘program’ or ‘programmers’. It’s
not intended to be language specific, however the first language that’s
having it’s packages archived up there is Ruby. It’s very much in the
spirit of the ‘2002 year in scripting languages’ - trying to lessen the
divisions between the various scripting language camps (actually, I think
FreePAN may host C/C++ code as well eventually, so not just scripting
languages).
We’re kind of trying to do that here with the Portland Rubyists group as
well. We sometimes visit the Perlmongers and as a result several of them
now visit the Ruby meetings.
