Folks,
Does anyone have instructions to get / compile
the Tk extension for Aqua Tk on OS X 10.2. I was
hoping someone out there had a pkg, but I can’t
find one.
I would like to leave the current ruby and just get
the extension compiled. I do not want to use fink
or X11.
Going with the topic…
Is there a wiki / mailing list specifically for
ruby on OS X?
Matt
Hey Matt,
That’s something I’m trying to sort out as well, except that I’m taking a
different approach. I downloaded and compiled Tcl/Tk 8.4.1 for OS X last
night, and when time allows I’m going to try to compile Ruby 1.7.x (the CVS
version) with Tk support. I’m not sure how it’ll work. My last attempts
weren’t successful, using Ruby 1.6.7 and Tcl/Tk CVS.
There isn’t a OS X-specific ruby wiki, but I think there’s a need for more
OS X information on the regular wiki. You could always start with:
http://www.rubygarden.org/ruby?RubyOnMacintosh
If you could get a native binary package of Ruby/Tk working for Mac, I
think you’d be a bit of a hero!

Brian,
I tried to compile it with the ruby-4 source code from
Apple’s open source page. Its the extconf.rb that I
can’t seem to get to see the Tk headers. I edited
that and it didn’t work. I looked at CocoaRuby’s files and
think I might have to work out this whole framework
thing on OS X. I haven’t programmed much on OS X
(recent convert) so I am starting pretty far behind the
curve.

Hi Matt,
Behind the curve? You mean there’s a curve? Awww, man! I’m so far behind
the curve I didn’t even know there was a curve
All my good notes are at work, but I’ll put them up tomorrow. Meantime, I
just created a RubyTkOnOSX page for any notes that could help identify the
easiest ways to get Ruby/Tk working.
