How to access libnet from ruby?

Hi,
how can I directly use libnet under linux from ruby. the ruby-libnet (from rubyforge) is not working for me so I wanna do this by my own. But how can I access such an API like libnet on linux from ruby? I would be glad if someone could help me with this.
