Group Status

The Google Group mirror now appears to be 100% dead.

I double checked all settings. Found out that the archive mailing list
address had been deleted. I have no idea why, other than an assumption that
it was somehow removed in the Google's transition to the "New Google
Groups". But even after fixing the settings the mirror still does not work.
I submitted an issue to Google yesterday about this, but have not heard
anything back. And given past experience I do not expect to ever hear back.

I can only conclude that Google has decided to no longer support list
mirroring, but has decided to keep quiet about it. It seems strange though,
as I can't seem to find anyone else complaining about it when searching. Of
course, I can't seem to find much of anything related to Google Groups
issues of any sort. There isn't even a Groups forum on Google' Product
Discussions page:
http://groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/forum/#!forum/en. And it
uses Groups!

So, bottom line. If there is no progress on this issue by the end of the
week, I will terminate the group.

the Ubuntu mirror seems fine.

I agree that their interface is so "slick" that there's nothing there any
more. All you can do is post, read, search. Other options have been
removed.

It's probably an oversight.

Yeah, Google seems to go to great lengths to prevent users from asking
questions.

If that turns out to be the case then, may I ask what will be the future
of the Ruby language mailing list?

I don't think this has anything to do with ruby-talk. The list and
ruby-forum.com will continue to function in the same way.

That's interesting. I wonder if they had to do anything --or maybe admin
didn't switch to "new google groups"?

While that would lead me to believe the issue is just with
ruby-talk-google, I have noticed that ruby-core-google does not seem to
be fully working either --and I don't manage that group.

I'm sure it helps them keep costs down, but it does get a bit
ridiculous.

This only effects the Google Group *mirror*. The underlying
ruby-lang.org list is unaffected.

Excellent. I too am none too impressed with the Google groups interface
& their impending switch to `new' Google groups sounds perfectly awful.

Could you possibly furnish me with the actual direct subscription
address for ruby-lang.org? I'm having difficulties tracking it down.

Cheers,

The address is ruby-talk-admin@ruby-lang.org. Or you can just use the
web form at Mailing Lists .

I’m sorry I’ve been a bit to fast... this is the list master’s
address, which is probably not what you want... I meant to say
ruby-talk-ctl@ruby-lang.org. Sorry (see
http://www.ruby-lang.org/en/community/mailing-lists/manual-instructions/ )

which mirrors back from Google which is also where the url points
you to.

Wait a moment. The form over at ruby-lang.org subscribes you to the
google group? This is how I subscribed to the list and I’ve been
writing my messages in my email client up until today...

Cheers,
