Debian Packages for FreeRIDE 0.5.0rc1 available:; apt-get install now ;-)

The packages are fully apt-get-able.
To install FreeRIDE add the following line to /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://lsed.sourceforge.net/ruby/ debs/
then do
apt-get update
apt-get install freeride

This will automatically download the required dependencies: libfox1.0,
libfox-ruby1.7, libripper-ruby1.7, libfxscintilla1, etc.
The packages have been compiled on a Debian Sid system, but they will
probably install in Sarge and Woody. I will soon upload the package
sources, and they should be easily rebuilt.

I have tested these packages in two different machines, but problems
with dependencies are not impossible; please don’t hesitate to report
them.

Having to use a 56Kbps line is a real PITA when you’ve got used to
4Mbps… :expressionless:

Mauricio,

Please see the recent thread from Daniel Bretoi (subject “problems
installing fxscintilla”) about a potential dependency problem on Debian.
I don’t use Debian and so I don’t know how common this problem (missing
OpenGL libraries) might be.

Hope this helps,

Lyle

Thanks for doing this. Lets use this as a test for the Debian packages. Then
when we are ready for the actual release, it would probably be best for us
to set up the required directory structure on the server that hosts the
FreeRIDE wiki (rubyide.org).

Mauricio-

I’ve been trying to get FreeRIDE working on FreeBSD, and it seems that the
ripper I am unable to find. Doing a standard UNIX install without packages
doesn’t include ripper, nor does the FreeRIDE site mention where to find
it. (And I serarched on RAA for ripper to no avail…)

Where did you get the ripper for the install? If you could point me
the way… I’d appreciate it.

Hi,

I just installed your packages on my Debian Sid. They work just great !

Thank you !

Great, this was exactly what I expected :slight_smile:
I’ve spent some time working on these packages and they shouldn’t be too
bad, but I do nonetheless need some testing before they become “official”
in any way.

Now I want all Debian users to apt-get install and tell me that my
packages rule OR the reason why they suck :wink:

Mauricio,

Please see the recent thread from Daniel Bretoi (subject “problems
installing fxscintilla”) about a potential dependency problem on Debian.
I don’t use Debian and so I don’t know how common this problem (missing
OpenGL libraries) might be.

I’m aware of this potencial problem. I believe however that I got both
the build-dependencies (things needed to build the package) and the
actual package dependencies right, so if FreeRIDE is installed using
apt-get everything should be taken care of automatically.
See:

Package: freeride
Depends: ruby1.7, libripper-ruby1.7 (>= 0.0.5-1), libfox1.0 (>=
1.0.29-1), libfox-ruby1.7 (>= 1.0.16-1), libfxscintilla1 (>= 1.49-1)

Package: libfox1.0
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.3.1-1), libgl1, libjpeg62, libpng12-0,
libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2 (>= 1:2.95.4-15), libtiff3g, xlibs (>> 4.1.0),
zlib1g (>= 1:1.1.4)

Package: libfxscintilla1
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.3.1-1)
[^ weird! shouldn’t be linked to the FOX so? Might have to fix this.]

Moreover, libfxscintilla1 build-depends on libgl-dev.
As far as libraries are concerned, the dependencies should be mostly right
since they’re automatically determined during package creation: a script
checks what libraries an executable and/or library is linked against,
figures out the packages they belong to, and adds automatically the
dependency.

I would ask Daniel Bretoi (happy Debian user too I believe) to test my
packages and tell me if they installed cleanly or not. Were there any
dep. problem, it’d be very easy for me to fix it.

Hope this helps,
Thanks for pointing to libgl. I hadn’t either thought a lot about it
since I did already have it installed it the 2 machines I tested my
packages in…

Yeah, quite well hidden :slight_smile: There’s no single mention to Ripper
on the site itself!
