"Teach Yourself Ruby in 21 Days" is a well-thought-of book;
The "Pickaxe" book is also good -- and on-line. I prefer the one at http://dev.faeriemud.org -- it has a nice left-hand frame with the table of contents.
http://www.rubycentral.com is a good "first site", as is -- of course -- http://www.ruby-lang.org.

Can someone recommend the best Ruby book to learn from for
a beginner?
I was looking at "Teach yourself Ruby in 21 days". It looks
good, but i welcome suggestions.
