A vision for Parrot

this morning it struck me that it would be nice to have Parrot not

interpreted languages be compiled to this same byte code.

the name Parrot was inspired by 1-st april joke that matz and larry
was codeveloped new language called parrot  so this platform was
developed with at least perl, ruby and python in mind. there is at
least two common bytecode platforms at this time - jvm and .net; but
at any time there will be languages too different for standard virtual
machines

Actually IIRC the original Parrot was a hybrid of Perl and Python.
The hoax mentioned that Matz had called Larry and Guido thanking them
for the rush of new Ruby users. Nice to see language differences
being the source of a laugh for once.
