I’d guess that the link to help people get to a stable snapshot tarball
was introduced in January 2001, but stable-snapshot.tar.gz is refreshed
frequently. At the moment it contains ruby 1.6.7 (2002-09-22).

Thank you. I’ve missed this change. Both in the “not seen it yet” sense
