I'm happy to announce that Google Summer of Code has accepted a toplevel
mentoring organization for Ruby itself, in addition to Ruby on Rails and
SciRuby.

You can view the organization profile here (it could probably use some
beefing up):

I've created a Google Group to serve as the central point of contact for
the GSoC mentoring organization:

Unfortunately JRuby, which has been a mentoring organization for several
years, was rejected for the second year in a row, but we've partnered with
them and they will be acting as co-mentors.

We're definitely looking for more mentors and more project ideas. If you
have any ideas, please add them to our Ideas List:

> **[rubygsoc/rubygsoc](https://github.com/rubygsoc/rubygsoc/wiki/Ideas-List)**
>
> rubygsoc - Ruby Google Summer of Code project

If you're interested in mentoring, please join the Google Group and send a
message!

Very good news !
Maybe get in touch with Rubinius project ? That would be cool.

I've reached out to the Rubinius folks. Would be great to have them
included too.

That's great! 🙂

SciRuby's project ideas page is:

Some students are already looking out for projects. I hope we can get some
cool stuff this year 🙂

This is great news.

I've been helping interview potential summer interns the past couple of weeks. It's amazing how many are learning Python at school and have no experience with Ruby. It will be nice to get some pure Ruby exposure out there.
