Ruby power tools

Has anybody already thought about a project like “Perl Power Tools” but
in ruby? Here is the link: http://www.perl.com/language/ppt/
What do you think about that idea?

from time to time people suggest it, togheter with a rubyshell.
But I don’t think there is something real to look at.
That would be cool, anyway

Not standalone tools, mind you, but I did implement a few “power tool”
functions for the File class.

Look for “ptools” on the RAA.

Dan

A rubyshell would be nice to have.

At the moment I am using tcsh, which has good tab-completion features.
However it would be really sweet if the completion code were Ruby.

Here is some of my current completion rules (not pretty)

complete make ‘p@1@awk -F: '\''/^[^ \t#\/][^=:]*:/ {print $1 }'\'' [Mm]akefile @’
complete gv “n//f:{$PS,$PDF,$GZ}/”
complete man ‘p//c/’
complete {vim,vi,more,less} 'n/
/f:^.{o,a,dvi,gz,z,Z,zip,tgz}/’
complete unzip 'n/
/f:.{zip,ZIP}/’
complete ruby 'n/
/f:*.{rb,erb}/’

Hm, AFAIK irb uses readline. Maybe one can set some readline hooks and do
implement completion there? Then irb =~ rubysh.

Kind regards

Have you tried “irb -r irb/completion”?
