I have had reasonable success on Mandrake 9.1, but I compile everything
from source into a private directory (and I use Ruby from CVS). The
things I compile are:

fox
fxscintilla

ruby
FXRuby

and they get installed in /usr/local/mike/…

What is not working for you?

What is CVS?

CVS is the source code control system used by the Ruby developers as a
repository for ruby as it is developed. I mentioned that I use Ruby from
CVS because the versions available from the repository aren’t “real”
releases, they are snapshots of the source code. This means that the
version of Ruby I use may have features or bugs which other people will
not see.

http://www.ruby-lang.org/en/20020106.html discusses how to access the
Ruby CVS repository.

http://www.cvshome.org/ is the CVS home page.

Hope this helps,

Mike
