Dear ruby users,

Q: how do I tell ri to look in a different path then ~/.rdoc ?

I create documentation via

rdoc -r -o /tmp/rdoc

and I'd like to acces it with ri, but I can't find out how to tell ri
that it shouldn't look in ~/.rdoc.

pg$ ri --help

alpha 0.1

the following arguments are accepted by ri:

-f (format), -T, -w (width)

but no -p path or whatever.

That's a very, very old ri, and one that doesn't work with rdoc (as far as I remember). You need the ri out of a more recent Ruby distribution. That accepts a --doc-dir parameter, and honors the RI environment variable, which may be used to set defaults for arbitrary parameters.

Cheers

Dave,

thanks for your answer, but I am not sure where to get ri. Do I need
to download a current distribution? I have looked at raa, that leads
me to [http://www.pragmaticprogrammer.com/ruby/downloads/ri.html](http://www.pragmaticprogrammer.com/ruby/downloads/ri.html) but
this is only a description of your pickaxe book.

I'll try a current distribution next.

The raa entry should be removed (to be homnest, I'd forgotten it was there). Just get a recent Ruby distribution (1.8.2) and you should have ri all bundled up.

Cheers
