Question re usenet

Does anyone use Usenet anymore?

Quoting Gregory Cohen (gregorycohen2@gmail.com):

   Does anyone use Usenet anymore?

Mostly for (mostly illegal) binary stuff, for what I can surmise. I
haven't had anything to do with it for ages, but I believe idle
chit-chat has moved to other platforms (like this mailing list? ;-).

Giganews appears to still exist, if you want to shell out
$8.33/month...

Freenode recently died as far as other platforms are concerned. Got bought
out and the owner went power hungry and canned a lot of it. Most folks
there moved to Libera along with the old Ruby staff.

What you talk about is IRC. The OP was referring to Usenet:

From the good old days when you did not expect an immediate reaction
to your internet actions. Slow propagation... Not as slow as Fidonet,
when nodes had to dial each other up, but in that ballpark.
