thank you! This worked perfectly. I have become so used to
[command] [options] [files....]
that this possibility never crossed my mind.

I know I've just ruined the threading, but when I rejoined ruby-talk
yesterday, I got a confirmation message, and then no mail from the list.
The confirmation says I'm already a member. I think it might be a good
idea if re-subscribing is equivalent to
#on
if the person has turned their mail off, and forgotten about it.
So the quoting is because I stole the text of the web archive.
Thank you for your help and patience.
