Great Ruby Apps/Libraries

Other then Rails, what do you think the greatest Ruby app/library/gem is?

What application are you looking for?
Do you mean 'greatest' as in innovative and fun or are you looking to stick
with web frameworks?

There are a lot of interesting ruby built software out there, but I am not
really sure what you are getting after.

in terms of popular, the only thing that comes to mind is watir?

Actually come to think of it, rspec is pretty rockin'. Also I like
sinatra, ffi, and rake does all right. I would include jruby since it
can wrap swt/swing, but you just asked for apps, and its load time is
poor

Also popular is puppet.

This is hard to say because there are many small projects.

If I have to pick one for now, I will go with pry, simply because the
idea of being able to jump from object to object, inspect and manipulate
them, is a good one.

I haven't used it, but Metasploit sounds pretty cool. It's appears to me
mostly Ruby with some C.

I'm not getting after anything, really. I was just wondering what gems
other Rubyists think are awesome.

That last one must be flattery  But I'll take it! Lord, knows there
isn't often a lot of reward in pure open source development.

To add to the list, an application that I think is really cool, though I
have never had the opportunity to use it, is Adhearsion
(http://adhearsion.com/\).

As gem my choice is Nokogiri. Since I'm not a heavy gems user I'd also
add Oniguruma to the list.

Kind regards
