Dbi

Is the DBI module the preferred method for database connectivity?

that depends. if you want to be portable between several databases, then
ruby/dbi is the best choice.

if you know that you will always stick to one certain database
than you can also use the specific module for that databasel.
DBI builds on top of the database specific modules.

the database specific modules might have methods not available
with ruby/dbi and they are faster because there is no additional layer

Speaking of DBI, I’ve been looking for a Postgresql DBD for Windows
2000/XP for Ruby/DBI. The windows installer at RubyCentral was
supposed to have one (in 1.6.6.0) according to its README file,

http://www.pragmaticprogrammer.com/ruby/downloads/files/ruby166-0-README.txt

but it is missing in the distribution. Can someone put it back, or
point me somewhere where I can download a PostgresSQl DBD for Windows?

Thanks
