Just in time to wish you all a happy new year!
I’ve packaged several key Ruby documents into one TGZ or ZIP file and
provided a front-page for easy access. I call it “the bundle”.
Result: convenient off-line access to:
Pickaxe
Ruby Users Guide
Reference Manual
Ruby FAQ
comp.lang.ruby FAQ
Things that Newcomers to Ruby Should Know
Daniel’s Tutorial
plus a new document I wrote: “Getting Started With Ruby”, a guide to
the resources available to Ruby beginners.
download TGZ or ZIP from location specified below
unpack wherever you like (-> $BUNDLE_DIR)
it unpacks itself into ruby-doc-bundle directory
add $BUNDLE_DIR to your browser “favourites” (I make it my start
page)
For the time being:
www.soyabean.com.au/gavin/ruby-doc-bundle.zip OR
www.soyabean.com.au/gavin/ruby-doc-bundle.tar.gz
Pretty soon they’ll be conveniently located on www.ruby-doc.org .
(They are now, but they’re old. I’ll post here when they’re updated.)
Again, wishing all of you a happy and prosperous 2003.
Gavin
I should add that these are 1149K and 934K, respectively. Just so you
know.
Cheers,
Gavin

Fast, searchable Ruby documentation for core and standard libraries. Plus, links to tutorials, guides, books, and related sites.

What, you mean there’s not just a single Ruby script I can download and
run from cron to keep it in sync on my local machine?

Not yet, at least. On my backburner is a plan to have a script fetch mirrors of assorted online docs and copy over to
ruby-doc.org . No reason that script wouldn’t work on any given machine (especially since I’ll be developing it on my laptop.)
Of course, if someone should write this before I get to it, that would be fine, too.

Of course! Since the bundle is up on www.ruby-doc.org , that would be
the better link, I think.
It’s somewhere under Ruby-Doc.org: Documenting the Ruby Language . You can link
to it directly if you wish (remeber there are .tar.gz and .zip
versions), or distribute it as you please.
