[ANN] Rubum-tools version 0.01

Folks,

after less than one year and a half of Ruby practice, here is my first
small contribution to the Ruby world:

Rubum tools, version 0.01
(Ruby Album)

These tools will, when coming closer to version 1.0, allow you to
manipulate JPEG/JFIF images (commonly JPEG images) via a pure ruby api.

This first release contains a pre-pre-alpha JFIF library and a small tk
application that can be used to add/remove/edit comments inside a jpeg
image.

Rubum is aimed at being a good equivalent of the currently excellent
rubyphoto with one major difference: Rubum will store its metadata
directly inside the JPEG files, probably using a YAML format or even the
photo-RDF W3C recommendation[1].

Documentation is sparse and usage of my program not really easy but I
was so happy to finish this that I couldn’t resist

It’s been tested on Win2k, with pragprog distribution. You’ll need to
fix the TkVariable bug I discovered in ruby-talk:68309[2] or else when
you’ll delete one comment you’ll flush all the comments from the image.
you’re warned.

It’s probably buggy, so I’d love to get some feedback from you.

Next version of rubum-tools should implement a pure ruby equivalent of
RDFPic[3] and have thumbnail extraction available. No more java bloat

Go get Rubum-tools[4],

And thanks for Ruby !

Our bodies are given life from the midst of nothingness. Existing where there
is nothing is the meaning of the phrase, “form is emptiness.” That all things
are provided for by nothingness is the meaning of the phrase, “Emptiness is
form.” One should not think that these are two separate things.
